setting up for a large group photo, about 320 in this group |
Here are some samples of the type of large groups I photograph. On the actual photos faces are clearly visible and they are much better than what you see here.
The size of groups I generally do range from 200 to 800 people and I specialise in groups too big for most other photographers. I do this with the specialised cameras I have, the main reason it works is that everyone stays close to the camera.
If you use a conventional camera to photograph groups, generally 20 people per row is the standard. A group of 300 people requires 15 rows deep, the people in the back rows become tiny little dots in the photo.
With the rotation cameras I use I can work with rows up to 100 people, so 300 people would only need 3 rows. Normally I would use 50 per row which requires 6 rows and the back people are easily seen as they're reasonably close to the camera.
